Botanical name: Thalictrum foliolosum    Family: Ranunculaceae (Buttercup family)
Once upon a time, the newborn infant was placed upon a pillow filled with Meadow-Rue to ensure a prosperous life. Thalictrum means “to flourish,” and it does, with elegant foamlike sprays that resemble Baby’s Breath, and rounded, finely cut, compound foliage. Leafy Meadow-Rue flowers are small, white to dull greenish-purple, many in much-branched often dense clusters borne on tall leafy stems 1.2-2.6 m. Petals are ovate, 3-5 mm, green, soon falling; stamens much longer, filaments white. Leaves are 15-45 cm, many times divided into oblong-ovate, rounded-toothed, 3-lobed leaflets 1-1.5 cm. Achenes are 2-5, ellipsoid, strongly ribbed, stalkless; beak curved. Leafy Meadow-Rue is found in the Himalayas, from Kashmir to SE Tibet, Burma, at altitudes of 1300-3400 m. Flowering: July-September.
Medicinal uses: The plant is used in several eye disorders.
