Lesser mallow is a small subshrub up to 1.5 m tall. Flowers are
2.5-5 cm across, orange or white, borne singly in leaf-axils,
carried on flower-stalks
1.2-1.3 cm long, shorter than leaf-stalks. Petals are 5, rounded at tip;
staminal column 1.1 cm long, shorter than petals. Involucellar bracts 6–7,
shorter than sepal-cup, linear-lanceshaped, sepal-cup 5-parted.
Its Marathi name Dupari come from the fact the flowers open fully at noon.
Stems are round, velvet-hairy. Lower leaves are ovate, 3-lobed, upper
ones lanceshaped, 5.7-12.3 x 1.2-4.7 cm;
3-5-nerved from base. Leaf-stalks are up to 3.2 cm long.
Capsules are nearly spherical, 5-7 mm across. It is cultivated as a
garden plant. Flowering: September-April.
