I like the trip to Valley of Flowers & Yumthang Valley. It would be very helpful if you include kitchen garden section,by giving information such as the season/month in which vegetable may be grown, veg which may be grown in pots/balcony etc.

Thank you so much for ending my desperate search for the name of a flowering tree - Neem Chameli. A hazy picture from my childhood gathering these flowers from someone's garden, happening to see them at Panaji lining the roads and finally discovering a few trees in my neighbourhood - it was too much to love something and not know its name. Apparently my internet search wasn't well- directed , else I'd have found about them earlier. Incidentally I've found the trees in my neighbourhood blooming only in the cooler months beginning October. Is it a different variant that blooms post April as well?

I just stumbled upon this site few days ago and fell in love with the trove of information. This team has done a wonderful job, keep it up. As I was searching flowers associated with my childhood, I was unable to locate its reference. In marathi is is called "Gokarna" its a vine with bluish ear shaped flowers. I would appreciate if any one the contributing members as well as readers could point me to the botanical name.

I wish you to make it possible for the viewers to write the suggestions related on the page of the plant itself or you odify it later according to the latest information. I find I can add some Telugu names for the plants I see like Thespesia populnea which is called Gangaravi in Telugu but a enthusiast may not go to guest book and check for local names. So please incorporate some names. I daily visit and recognise several plant names in my language.

Thanks for maintaining this really great inventory. I had been desperately looking for a flower which I had seen in my childhood in Coorg - Bhumi champa (Nela sampige in kannada). Not having been able to trace it in my last few visits to coorg,i feared it may have got lost. Am thrilled I found it on your site and more thrilled that it is doing great in the north east.

Thank u so much!
My suggestion is to include a little note on the climate requirements, how to grow, care and water requirements of the plant and where to get/or buy the plant or propagate it. This information would make my search about my flowers so complete!

This is a wonderful website. Regional names and the pictures render this site very very user friendly.
A dream come true for me as i am planting native trees in Kotagiri as a part of my contribution to nature. I got lot of useful information from this site to select the saplings for the place.

Suggestions,
1. Please include the states/regions in a seperate column where the trees are found in native. A tree native to Manipur may not be to Tamilnadu.
2.Altitude range, where the trees found, as i now came to know it matters.
3.Specifications of landscape where they are found esp. river banks, slopes, rocky areas etc. ( more than 50% of the 151 tress that i planted were wrongly planted to the landscapes though belong to the same area.)

Thank you FOI team for providing this site to us

Regards, Tolstoy

(To note - My project is a SELF-FUNDED and purely non-commercial. It is about 2.2 acres and situated near a southern hilltop forest at an altitude of 1400 mts. I would sincerely appreciate if anyone helps me as i am totally new to botanical side though emotionally attached.)

i felt like crying after seeing ur fabulous pics as we had to leave our own house and go to another place and the place waas eventually demolished along with the plants.some did come along with us but not the big ones like butt mogra. almost all garden plants were in our house thanks to my mom who was a fanatic in buying and painstakingly caring for them even though she was a working lady. we were the only ones to have butt mogra in our locality and used to give to our friends for puja too.just took me back to my childhood.i now live in a gulf country[desert]so this has made me feel homesick.ill send my mom this site.

Team's reply: Sampenga puvvu should be the Champa flower. Since it is native to the Himalayas, it doesn't have a proper English name - some call it the Joy Perfume Tree. Sampenga or Sampaga is a modification of the original Sanskrit name Champaka. Poo generally means flower in Malayalam.
wonderful job!

Hi,
"Flowers of India" is one of my most favorite sites. My first visit itself was very impressive one. I felt that the botanical and other details about the individual species were impressively precise, updated, highly authenticated and presented in lucid manner. Hence, I started using this site more often.
Being a teacher in the field of Horticulture, I find the information regarding various plants very genuine, reliable, easily accessible and also presented in most attractive manner. I am overwhelmed with joy to see the exhaustive synonyms and common names for these plants. The photographs are purely awesome. The servers' speed is also splendid. The botanical description of the plants, the categorization of various species into relevant groups, the recognition and due credit given to the photographers, identifiers and other volunteers etc., shows that there is an extremely dedicated and hardworking team supported by most active, well informed and updated technical supporters to float and maintain this site with such colorful, precise and lucid information.
Hats off to one and all involved in running this site. It seems to me that "Flowers of India" is truly a site of International standards built for the World at large and for Indians in particular with the arduous Indian minds comprising of Indian content. The fact that various sections of the site are being continuously updated and new sections being regularly introduced, the site has most bright future ahead in meeting its objectives. The most colorful and silent revolution of "Flowers of India" is highly impressive and laudable.
This is truly a great and significant contribution to India.

Having grown up in the lush green countrysides of Kerala, this site has helped me identify the names of many flowers of my childhood.
